MSP avoids appliance capital expenses, offers clients software-based disaster recovery

Enterprise Data Solutions, Inc. (EDSI), an Ohio-based managed service provider, faced a common SMB challenge: customers needed reliable backup and disaster recovery but could not justify the six- to 20‑TB appliance purchases and six-figure capital outlays those solutions required. Buying appliances themselves was also risky for EDSI, so they needed a right-sized, low‑capex path to protect growing volumes of client data.

EDSI adopted Quest QoreStor through the MSP program and integrated it with Veeam, delivering software‑based, virtual or cloud-hosted backup and DR with pay-as-you-grow licensing. QoreStor’s source‑side deduplication (achieving about 5:1 in 30 days), compression, cloud tiering and retroactive encryption cut storage needs and costs, removed the need for expensive Veeam appliance licensing, and gave EDSI a scalable, more secure backup and disaster recovery service for SMB clients.
