A Quest Case Study

IT consolidations help NHS trust realise strategic objectives and improve patient care

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is a UK healthcare organisation serving acute, community, mental health and learning disability services and thousands of GP patients across the county. Formed by two mergers, the 20,000‑employee trust needed to consolidate multiple Active Directory domains and Exchange systems quickly and without disrupting frontline care or user productivity.

The IT team used Quest migration, consolidation and modernization tools to migrate and sync identities and mailboxes, enabling coexistence, automatic Outlook profile updates and seamless email routing during the transition. Across two projects they consolidated some 26,000 users and more than 31,000 mailboxes — including moving 4,152 mailboxes and roughly 10 TB of email in 10 working days — while maintaining service availability, simplifying the patient journey and creating a repeatable migration model other NHS trusts now follow.
