Healthcare provider meets growing data backup and recovery needs

Allergy Partners, a U.S. healthcare provider and the nation’s largest single‑specialty allergy, asthma and immunology practice with ~800 employees and dozens of sites across 17 states, faced growing data and recovery demands. Their tape-based system could only handle 2 TB, cost about $90,000 a year, required up to 20 hours/week of manual tape work, and could not complete full backups for the organization’s more than 12 TB of EHR and business data while meeting a 10‑day retention and 24/7 availability requirement.

The organization deployed Quest DR4000 deduplication and compression appliances at primary and secondary sites, enabling full nightly backups, integrated offsite replication, and a 71% deduplication rate for 12 TB retained 10 days. The solution provided roughly six times the usable storage at a fraction of the tape costs, cut backup windows and manual labor (saving up to 20 hours/week), and delivered consistent, reliable access to patient records.
