BAA Puts Identity Management On Auto-Pilot With Defender® Two-Factor Authentication And Reduces Costs

BAA, a major UK airport operator that runs Heathrow and five other airports, faced an urgent identity-management challenge: its existing two-factor tokens were due to expire and replacing them for 3,500 users would be costly and disruptive. The organisation also needed a scalable solution to expand access to about 7,500 internal and external users, integrate with Microsoft Active Directory, and avoid any impact on critical airport operations.

BAA selected One Identity’s Defender, which integrates with AD, supports OATH-compliant hardware and soft tokens, and can co-exist with the legacy system to enable a fast, phased rollout. Defender’s tokens last five to seven years (about 67% longer), offer self-registration and simplified administration, and allowed BAA to meet a six-week deadline while maintaining continuity of service — delivering cost savings, simpler identity management, and an expected 100% ROI within four years.
