A Quest Case Study
The South Dakota Housing Development Authority, a 100-employee government agency, struggled with a tape-based backup system that often ran past its 8 p.m.–4 a.m. window, degraded morning performance and made restores slow and unreliable for a two-person IT team. These backup failures impeded employee productivity and created compliance risks during audits.
The Authority deployed Quest DR4000 disk backup appliances at its primary and replication sites and moved to CommVault Simpana, achieving inline deduplication rates of 72–85%. Backups now complete within the allotted windows (incremental ~4 hours, full ~8 hours), IT time is reduced by at least two hours per day, storage utilization is only 23% of 18 TB after dedupe, and the organization now has fast, reliable restores and auditor-approved disaster recovery.
