Honeywell reduces flight control chassis weight by 63% with Quartus Engineering

Honeywell needed to certify a Flight Control Chassis for a new aircraft environment, ensuring it could survive vibration and abuse loads while also seeking to reduce its weight. Quartus Engineering was engaged to perform detailed analysis using finite element modeling and to explore design optimization.

Quartus Engineering created a detailed finite element model to analyze the chassis under various conditions. They then optimized the existing aluminum design, reducing its weight by 36%, and also developed a new graphite composite chassis that reduced the baseline weight by 63%. Both designs were confirmed to survive the required operational and fatigue loads.
