Worcester City Council turns to Quartix vehicle tracking to cut cost

Worcester City Council, facing unprecedented financial pressure, turned to Quartix’s real-time vehicle tracking to manage transport costs and boost efficiency. A ten-month trial on 30 vehicles (refuse trucks, road sweepers and parks vehicles) showed that reducing engine idling, harsh braking and rapid acceleration would cut fuel use enough to more than cover the system’s cost—prompting procurement manager Darrell Pulver to pursue a formal solution.

After a competitive tender, Quartix was selected for its functionality, competitive price and responsive service. The system has since delivered lower fuel bills, better customer service and expected reductions in insurance claims and component costs (tyres, brake pads), while simplifying fleet management; Pulver has recommended Quartix to five neighbouring councils.
