Case Study: Sud Ouest achieves streamlined, automated magazine and supplement production with Quark Publishing Platform

The French Publisher of Regional Daily News Uses Quark Publishing Platform to Manage its Full Range of Magazines and Supplements

Sud Ouest, a Bordeaux-based regional press group that publishes 21 four-color daily editions (64 pages) with a combined circulation of about 320,000 copies per day plus multiple weekend supplements and magazines (including Terre de Vins and Sud Ouest Gourmand), faced a fragmented, manual production process. Their QuarkXPress-based workflow relied on FTP, email and phone coordination, limiting visibility, asset management and secure collaboration across editorial, production and advertising teams.

Working with Quark and systems integrator CSE, Sud Ouest implemented Quark Publishing Platform—configured to fit existing tools and processes—and rolled it out starting February 2013. The platform’s database-driven, tree-structure workflow and automation centralized asset management and real-time task tracking, streamlined production of supplements and magazines, enabled editorial/advertising collaboration, supported in‑house graphics work, and opened the door to tablet/smartphone publishing—delivering faster, more secure and more efficient production.
