Xinjiang Oilfield Company - Customer Case Study

Xinjiang Oilfield Company, part of PetroChina, needed to scale its storage to support data‑intensive seismic analysis run on a large HPC cluster (about 640 nodes and 7,000 cores). Typical projects generated 30–40 TB and the Institute required more than 100 TB of new capacity per year; its legacy disk and NAS systems could not meet the higher bandwidth, low‑latency InfiniBand connectivity and parallel I/O demanded by modern exploration workflows.

The team deployed a Quantum StorNext scale‑out solution—QD6000 RAID arrays with StorNext metadata and gateway appliances—providing InfiniBand and IP access, dual‑controller reliability, and compatibility with CGG applications. The preconfigured system was installed in two months and delivered up to 3.6 GB/s sequential write performance, dramatically faster processing and shorter project timelines, simplified management, and seamless capacity scalability, backed by Quantum’s support and training.
