University of Bristol - Customer Case Study

The University of Bristol needed to expand protection for its critical data from about 10TB to more than 100TB but found its legacy deduplication appliances too slow, insufficiently scalable, and cost-prohibitive—putting strict restore SLAs and unpredictable budgets at risk.

After proof-of-concept testing the IT team deployed Quantum DXi4700 appliances with EMC NetWorker. DXi delivered higher throughput (≈265 MB/s NAS, ≈300 MB/s VTL), capacity-on-demand scalability, and fast remote replication between two campus sites; the solution now protects roughly 150TB weekly, replicates within about 30 minutes, meets same-day recovery SLAs, and reduced administrative overhead with proactive vendor support.
