A Quantum Corporation Case Study
Codex, the London‑based provider of on‑set media management used on major blockbusters, faces the challenge of protecting enormous volumes of digital footage—often 3–5 TB per day across multiple locations—where a single shoot can require hundreds of tapes. Traditional tar‑based archiving created inefficiencies: tapes were locked at day‑end, small appends forced use of new multi‑TB cartridges, and editors had to restore whole archives to access individual clips, increasing cost and risk for high‑value productions.
To solve this, Codex integrated Quantum LTO tape drives and LTFS (via its Vault Archive), enabling file‑level access, easy appends, and portable, reliable tape storage with dual LTO drives for simultaneous archiving. The result: improved tape utilization and lower cartridge costs, faster clip access without full restores, streamlined editing workflows, and stronger long‑term protection—making Quantum the company’s default tape platform.
