redIT Uses Scalar Tape Library for Private, Customizable Clouds

redIT is a data center operator that builds private, customizable cloud services for clients such as Oracle, McDonald’s and Bloomberg. When disk-only backups proved insufficient for clients’ needs around security, privacy, long-term archiving, regulatory retention and data portability, redIT sought a proven vendor and flexible solution to restore client confidence and meet strict compliance requirements.

redIT deployed a Quantum Scalar i500 tape library with LTO-5 drives (integrated with Symantec Backup Exec), gaining AES‑256 hardware encryption, higher throughput, tape partitioning and near-line indexing. The solution complemented existing disk backup, reduced backup windows, enabled cost-effective offsite storage and scalable, auditable retention workflows, allowing redIT to meet customers’ backup, compliance and privacy needs while preserving trusted vendor transparency.
