Radio Frequency Systems Gains 90% Data Reduction and 50% Availability Improvement With Veeam and Quantum

Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) is a global designer and manufacturer of cable, antenna and RF systems with 1,800 employees and highly virtualized operations; its Hanover site backs up growing CIFS and VMware data and needed a reliable, low‑maintenance redundant backup solution to replace inconsistent built‑in and scripted backups and aging storage. With two IT staff supporting 300+ users, RFS was looking for time savings, a smaller data footprint and improved recovery for Tier‑1 applications.

RFS deployed Veeam Backup & Replication paired with a Quantum DXi4701 deduplication appliance, which integrated in hours and delivered a “fire‑and‑forget” backup workflow. The combined solution achieved roughly 90% data reduction (about a 9:1 dedupe ratio), saved ~25 TB of storage, cut the backup‑to‑tape window from eight to four hours, reduced daily maintenance to under five minutes, and materially improved availability and recovery times while providing scalable, tape‑path tiering for future growth.
