Monticello Associates, a growing independent asset-management firm with offices in Denver and Cleveland, was hampered by an aging, unreliable LTO-2 tape backup system that frequently failed and couldn’t keep pace with expanding servers, Exchange data and a new virtualized environment. With a small IT staff, the company needed a simple, proven D2D2T solution that would support legacy tape, improve reliability and provide room to grow.

Monticello deployed a Quantum DXi4601 deduplication appliance, Scalar i40 tape library and Symantec Backup Exec (with an LTO-3 drive for legacy access) via H.A. Storage Systems. The new solution sped backups and restores, virtually eliminated failures, enabled six months of weekly onsite restores, reduced tape costs through deduplication and left ample headroom for future growth—giving the firm greater reliability and peace of mind.
