National Administration of Surveying,Mapping and Geoinformation (NASMG) - Customer Case Study

The Heilongjiang Branch of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation (NASMG) is a national geoinformation and mapping agency that produces high‑resolution LIDAR and aerial imagery for fast‑growing urban areas. Faced with a petabyte of legacy data plus rapidly increasing, compute‑intensive workflows, the team needed more storage capacity, higher processing performance, multi‑user access across platforms, and an economical way to preserve and protect assets long term.

Working with integrator Nikoyo China, NASMG deployed Quantum StorNext 5 scale‑out storage—using QD6000 disk arrays, M662 metadata appliances, G302 gateway appliances and an AEL tape archive. The solution accelerated analysis via high‑speed disk and Fibre Channel, enabled concurrent multi‑OS collaboration, automated tiered archiving to low‑cost tape, and provided disaster‑recovery options; as a result projects complete faster, collaboration has improved, and data is stored securely and can scale to meet future growth.
