The Mahr Group, a global precision-instrument manufacturer with about 1,700 employees, was overwhelmed by rapidly growing data from CAD files, videos, databases, virtual machines and NAS. Doubling data volumes outpaced its legacy backup infrastructure, producing long 72-hour weekend backups and high administrative overhead.

Quantum implemented a DXi6700 deduplication appliance (32TB) with Veeam and Symantec Backup Exec integrated with the existing Scalar i500 tape library—installed in one day. Deduplication cut disk needs by ~80% (28TB holding >160TB), shortened the backup window to 48 hours, reduced backup administration from 100% to 15%, and delivered more reliable backups and fast vendor support.
