Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ups Its Backup Game with Quantum DXiSolution

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC and several venues and digital channels, struggled with a short, irregular backup window and a small IT staff supporting 600+ desktops and 300 POS machines. Full backups to its legacy tape library routinely exceeded 24 hours, making reliable daily protection and disaster recovery impractical.

MLSE deployed two Quantum DXi7500 Express systems with a Quantum Scalar 50 tape library and CA ARCserve, adopting deduplication, disk-to-disk-to-tape and remote replication. Backups now complete in 6–8 hours (daily for critical systems, weekly full backups retained 30 days), restores take minutes, offsite replication and tape archival are automated, IT time and tape costs have fallen, and the solution is scalable and proven reliable for disaster recovery.
