KOPRI - Customer Case Study

The Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), a global leader in polar genomics research, was overwhelmed by rapidly growing next‑generation sequencing (NGS) data and the limits of its legacy NAS (50 TB). Needing higher capacity, faster multi‑user access, better reliability and scalability — all within budget — KOPRI set out to replace its aging storage infrastructure.

KOPRI implemented Quantum StorNext (StorNext File System with QX‑1200 disk arrays and G302 gateways) to provide an initial 144 TB of high‑performance disk storage, fast shared access for multiple users and analysis tools, and the ability to scale to tape and remote sites. The solution delivered reliable, cost‑effective management of large genomic datasets (dozens of TB per organism), enabled concurrent processing of multiple projects, and positioned KOPRI to expand its sequencing and long‑term archival capabilities.
