Growth at Video and Motion Graphics Company Enabled by Switch to StorNext Pro Studio

Platinum Platypus is a Long Island–based video, motion graphics and animation studio that grew from a small Mac-based team into a vendor for Hollywood, the NFL and Fortune 500 clients. As projects expanded to large 5K files and heavier CGI workloads, the studio’s portable drives and Dropbox-based workflows caused long sync delays, version confusion and a growing backlog that threatened its ability to take on new work.

Working with Quantum, Platinum Platypus deployed StorNext Pro Studio (dual-redundant M441D metadata controller, 96 TB QX-1200 RAID, Brocade Fibre Channel fabric and a Scalar LTO library). The SAN-based system gave editors fast, shared access to the same files, eliminated syncing overhead, provided fast archive/restore and scaled with demand. The solution was installed with no downtime, dramatically improved ingest and playback performance for multi-user projects, and became a foundation for the company’s continued growth.
