DXi System Simplifies and Centralizes Virtual and Physical Backup for South Pasadena School District

South Pasadena Unified School District (five schools serving ~4,000 students and 500 employees) faced a fragmented backup environment protecting nearly a terabyte of critical student and administrative data. Multiple backup applications and the addition of 15 virtualized servers led to frequent backup failures, unpredictable capacity, and restores that could take hours, leaving virtual machines effectively unprotected.

Working with reseller ICC, the district consolidated backups onto a central Quantum DXi4510 appliance and redirected Symantec Backup Exec and Veeam Backup & Replication to the DXi, using appliance-based deduplication to reduce load and storage. The result: reliable, faster backups with no failures, the ability to protect more data (including full VMs), restores in as little as 15 minutes, extended retention on modest storage, and plans to add a second DXi for offsite replication and disaster recovery.
