A Quantum Corporation Case Study
The West Australian, a large metropolitan newspaper with multi‑terabyte archives and demanding uptime requirements, was struggling with an aging backup environment that could take up to 65 hours to back up large repositories and made restores slow and unpredictable. Faced with growing data (including a 12TB enterprise vault and a 10TB image archive) the IT team needed a faster, more reliable system that could retain a month or more of disk backups for quick restores.
WA News deployed a Quantum DXi disk‑based deduplication appliance (DXi6702 with a remote DXi6802 for DR) plus Scalar i80 tape libraries and integrated replication. The new D2D2T solution cut backup time by 500%, stores roughly 32–50 days of backups on disk for fast restores, delivers restores about five times quicker, speeds replication to tape, and provides scalable, “set‑and‑forget” protection and automated disaster recovery.
