A Quantum Corporation Case Study
The District of Lippe, a German regional government serving 16 urban centers and more than 1,500 end-user devices, faced rapidly growing data volumes, heavy server virtualization (180+ VMs), and failing software-based deduplication and backup tools. Nightly backups increasingly missed windows, restores were slow and complex, and the legacy backup application could not reliably protect virtual machines.
Lippe deployed Quantum DXi deduplication appliances (with a Scalar i500 tape library) and Veeam backup software, writing VM backups to DXi CIFS shares and replicating sets off-site for DR. The new setup completed backups within the window (by ~1 AM), achieved deduplication rates up to 29:1 and bandwidth reductions up to 136:1 (replication in ~30 minutes), restored files much faster, provided a second daily copy off-site, and retained weekly tape vaults for long-term protection—freeing IT time and delivering reliable, rapid restores.
