A Quantum Corporation Case Study
Brigham Young University–Hawaii (BYU–H) produces a wide range of video content but found its legacy storage and tape-based workflows unable to handle the move from SD to HD. Large HD files exposed limits in capacity, transfer speed and redundancy—projects stalled for space, transfers over FireWire were slow, and collaboration across editors was cumbersome.
BYU–H implemented Quantum StorNext on an IBM BladeCenter with an IBM DS5000 SAN (plus Brocade switching and ATTO HBAs), migrated data to the SAN and moved to ProRes/XDCAM formats. StorNext enabled simultaneous multi-user editing, eliminated videotape ingestion, increased transfer rates about tenfold, doubled editing efficiency and ultimately boosted production throughput fourfold while improving content organization, protection and scalability.
