Busan Bank - Customer Case Study

Busan Bank, a major South Korean regional bank, needed a more reliable, scalable backup and retention strategy after moving primary storage to a next‑generation UNIX system in 2012. With an aging mainframe and strict regulatory and continuity requirements, the bank’s Systems Operation team prioritized reliability, recoverability, scalability and low administrative overhead for archive, disaster recovery and long‑term data retention.

They deployed Quantum’s Scalar i6000 automated tape library (scalable to 12,006 slots) using EDLM for media integrity and iLayer for automated management. The solution halved the daily backup window, boosted backup performance by up to 130%, now handling about 40 TB/day (300 TB/week), reduced power use and administrative time, and delivered the scalable, reliable infrastructure needed for continuous financial services and compliance.
