A Quantum Corporation Case Study
Bend Memorial Clinic, a multi‑specialty medical group with about 600 staff across several Central Oregon locations, was struggling with an aging backup stack (HP MSA1000 and tape) that could only protect a shrinking subset of critical EHR and billing data. Full backups dragged through the week, incremental jobs ran 12-hour nights with frequent failures, and restores often required tape couriering that could take more than a week. Protecting a growing VMware environment (10 hosts, 80 VMs) and finding a cost‑effective, reliable solution were urgent priorities.
The clinic deployed two Quantum DXi6702 appliances (16 TB each), Quantum vmPRO, a Scalar i40 tape library and Vision reporting. The new system delivered about 20:1 deduplication, backed up four times more data in one‑quarter the time, and cut restore windows from days or weeks to minutes (5–10 minutes). IT administration time for backups dropped ~75% (from ~1 hour/day to ~1 hour/week), three‑year TCO was ~35% lower than competitors, and improved visibility and replication plans positioned the clinic to offer shared backup services to smaller clinics.
