A Quantum Corporation Case Study
The Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF) is a national provider of genomic sequencing for academic, clinical, commercial and government customers. Rapid data growth—storage needs tripled in 2.5 years and a change in sequencing chemistry effectively multiplied incoming data—left AGRF unable to retain data beyond 200–300 days or complete backups in a reasonable window, threatening accessibility and data protection.
AGRF implemented a Quantum multi-tier storage solution (StorNext scale-out, Artico NAS front end and a Scalar tape library with Active Vault), using custom scripts to automatically stage sequencer output. The deployment (~230 TB native capacity) extended retention to as much as three years, enabled fast retrieval of older data, improved backup and disaster recovery with on- and off-site tape copies, halved hardware costs versus a competing option, reduced admin overhead, and provides scalable capacity for future growth.
