ACRI‑ST, a southeastern France–based specialist that has archived and processed satellite data for ESA and other organizations for more than 25 years, faced rapidly growing data volumes—an immediate need to store 400 TB and upcoming Sentinel‑3 missions that would push requirements to several petabytes. The challenge was to preserve irreplaceable raw satellite data while giving in‑house scientists and hundreds of external researchers fast, reliable access and supporting automated processing workflows.

ACRI‑ST deployed Quantum StorNext scale‑out tiered storage (disk cache plus tape, QX‑1200 and AEL6000) with policy‑driven tiering and a single namespace.
