Pekin Insurance Ushers In New Era for Vendor Risk Assessments

Pekin Insurance, a multi-line regional insurer with about 700 employees and $2 billion in assets, was struggling with a manual vendor-risk assessment process that relied on emailed questionnaires and spreadsheets. Rapid adoption of cloud services, growing regulatory complexity, and a six-person InfoSec team created backlogs and inefficiencies that left the company exposed and slowed business units.

Pekin implemented Qualys Security Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), a cloud-based, web console that rebuilt their 76-question assessment, automated distribution and reminders, and centralized tracking and reporting with templates and criticality scoring. The change eliminated spreadsheet-based workflows, freed InfoSec to focus on core security tasks, improved questionnaire quality and prioritization, and provided integrated, executive-level visibility into compliance performance.
