The New York Board of Trade (now Intercontinental Exchange) is the world’s largest exchange for commodity “softs” and depends on uninterrupted trading operations. After auditors flagged growing network vulnerabilities in 2002, NYBOT created a CISO role and needed a fast, reliable way to assess and protect its perimeter without building new infrastructure or adding staff.

NYBOT deployed the Qualys Cloud Platform as a hosted vulnerability-management service, enabling immediate, automated weekly scans, daily vulnerability updates, and enterprise-wide reporting via a browser. Implementation took under an hour, delivered third‑party validation, freed staff to focus on remediation, produced a reported 10:1 payback (avoiding hiring a senior security technician), and reduced review time to about 15 minutes a week while strengthening continuity of trading.
