Frontier Airlines Shifts PCI Compliance to Autopilot

Frontier Airlines, a Denver‑based low‑fare carrier with about 5,600 employees and roughly 80% of bookings made online, needed a reliable way to meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements. Relying on a mix of scanners and an external Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) left Frontier facing scheduling delays, per‑scan fees, and inconsistent assessment results that made it hard to validate and maintain compliance.

Frontier implemented QualysGuard PCI, an on‑demand Web‑service that enabled the airline to run its own PCI scans and produce QSA‑consistent reports, eliminating outsourcing costs and scheduling hassles. The move standardized vulnerability management (later expanded to QualysGuard Enterprise), automated forthcoming scans, improved efficiency, and freed security budget for higher‑value initiatives such as strategic consulting.
