A Qualcomm Life, Inc. Case Study
McLaren Port Huron, a 186‑bed nonprofit hospital in Port Huron, Michigan, faced a critical device integration challenge when it moved to a Meditech MU2 EHR that lacked the prior system’s direct patient/device registration. The hospital needed a reliable, scalable and cost‑effective medical device integration (MDI) solution that could perform patient association via location matching, support existing monitors and ventilators, and be deployed in an eight‑week window by a small in‑house team while the ICU remained operational. McLaren Port Huron engaged Qualcomm Life, Inc. and its Capsule Medical Device Information System™ (MDIS) to meet these needs.
Qualcomm Life, Inc. configured Capsule’s MDIS to perform seamless patient‑device association and transmit device data into Meditech, deploying 13 fixed bedside Capsule Neuron™ 2 clinical computers to support GE/Marquette Solar 8000 monitors and Nellore Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators. The implementation was completed on schedule with no need for nurses to record bedside data by hand, and delivered measurable benefits including improved ICU clinical efficiency, faster data availability, greater clinician focus and higher staff satisfaction. Qualcomm Life, Inc.’s solution also positioned McLaren Port Huron to expand integrations (for example, balloon pumps) across the hospital.
