Coleman Cable Eliminates Paper and Expenses with Formtastic

Coleman Cable is a Waukegan, Illinois manufacturer of wire and cable products serving the electrical, electronic, and automotive markets. As the company grew, it was generating large volumes of forms on its IBM System i, including about 600 to 1000 invoices and 500 packing slips per day, and its old printing process depended on cumbersome hardware, IPDS cards, and time-consuming manual steps.

Coleman Cable replaced those tools with Quadrant Software’s Formtastic and Formatter. The new setup eliminated bursters, moved printing to the more universal PCL format, and reduced spool file merge jobs from hours to seconds; Formatter also cut document lengths by 50 to 75% and helped add bin location and number to packing slips without changing the core ERP system. The company also used Formtastic’s PDF module to automate email delivery of documents.
