National Department Store, an iconic retail chain with more than 800 brick-and-mortar locations, was seeing flat response from its catalog and direct mail programs and lacked the time, tools and staffing to refresh creative. Quad worked with corporate leadership to build customer personas, run virtual tests of hundreds of creative permutations, then printed and mailed the top test packages alongside a control and measured response rate, sales value and average order size. Quad’s approach drove strong impact: test packages outperformed expectations for all KPIs, with a 27.5% response for catalog, a 47.1% response for direct mail, and an increase in average order size.
