Wellstar Uses QTS Colocation to Cure Data Center Woes

WellStar Health Systems, a large metropolitan Atlanta healthcare provider, needed to replace an aging 4,800 sq. ft. data center that no longer met HIPAA/HITECH requirements or supported planned virtualization and disaster-recovery initiatives. After evaluating build vs. buy options, WellStar chose to buy new servers and colocate them with a third-party provider to accelerate deployment, reduce long-term maintenance, and improve uptime under a business associate agreement.

WellStar colocated its infrastructure at QTS’s Atlanta-Metro and Suwanee facilities, gaining redundant power and cooling, robust security, multiple connectivity options, and five‑nines availability for critical systems. The move delivered higher availability, lower operating costs, and greater flexibility; next steps include using QTS interconnect services to further strengthen disaster recovery and business continuity.
