Vodafone D2 Gmbh cuts testing cycles and builds 30 automated tests with Qt

Vodafone D2 Gmbh, a German mobile communications provider, needed a robust GUI testing tool for its in-house Java application used to manage telephone and DSL connections. Facing the challenge of creating reliable and maintainable automated tests, they turned to Qt (via its acquisition of froglogic) and selected the Squish automated testing suite to improve their quality assurance process.

The solution from Qt involved implementing Squish, which uses object property identification and an Object Map for reliable test scripting, avoiding fragile coordinate-based methods. Vodafone’s team created numerous tests in JavaScript, leveraging tools like Squish Spy for debugging. The results included significantly shorter testing cycles, reduced person-hours spent on testing, improved test coverage and reliability, and an overall enhancement in application quality, delivering a strong return on investment.
