Women’s and Children’s Hospital Uses Qstream to Improve Pediatric Medicine and Surgery Skills

Women's and Children's Hospital in North Adelaide is a leading specialist provider of pediatric care and a major teaching hospital that trains hundreds of clinicians each year. Its Medical Education Unit runs pediatric medicine and surgery courses for interns, resident medical officers and junior registrars, but unpredictable shifts and heavy workloads made it difficult for busy junior doctors to retain and apply critical knowledge and skills.

In 2015 the hospital deployed Qstream’s mobile, scenario-based knowledge reinforcement program to 140 junior medical officers. Short, gamified challenges delivered to smartphones and tablets—with real-time analytics to identify gaps—achieved an 87% engagement rate and increased topical proficiency from 49% to 86%, improving on-the-job retention and clinical performance.
