A QRyde Case Study
The Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MART) faced low utilization and high per-ride costs in Fitchburg — with only about 1.3 passengers per vehicle hour and many empty seats — and needed to increase ridership, improve scheduling and dispatch, and drive costs toward a $4/ride goal. MART partnered with QRyde to pilot a MicroTransit dispatch using MART vans and union drivers, leveraging QRyde’s Global Scheduling Engine and on-demand booking via web, app and call-center channels.
QRyde implemented a technology-driven solution combining its Global Scheduling Engine, real-time dispatch and targeted marketing to boost shared ridership and seat utilization. The pilot lifted passenger-per-vehicle-hour from 1.3 to 4.6, produced strong month-over-month growth in general public trips (e.g., 98 → 364 → 441 in Jun–Aug) and a >5% year-over-year increase in new trip requests, while improving operational efficiency and rider satisfaction as MART moves toward its $4/ride sustainability target.
