A QRyde Case Study
Penn Highlands Healthcare faced limited, inaccessible public transit across rural Pennsylvania (Elk, Jefferson & Clearfield counties, later expanded to 13 counties/8,250 sq. mi), leaving many patients—seniors, veterans, cancer patients and others—without affordable medical rides. Patients who don’t qualify for subsidized transport were often unable to pay an average $45 per trip for typical 20-mile medical trips, so Penn Highlands selected QRyde to pilot an on‑demand, equitable transportation program.
QRyde implemented a turnkey, community-based solution with fund management that used hospital vans, 3rd‑party providers and TNCs (e.g., Lyft), bookable via Call Center, web portal and mobile app. During the Jan 2020–Jun 2021 pilot QRyde averaged about 625 trips/month, cut cancellations by roughly 6% year-over-year, served areas of high poverty not covered by bus routes, and became self-sustaining beyond the pilot.
