Delivering an Early Connected Model in practice

The customer, LeMessurier, a structural engineering firm, faced the challenge of meeting the high demands and controlling costs on the landmark Fenway Center project. They needed to reduce expensive shop revisions, prevent schedule drift, and improve the overall design before the project went to bid. To address this, they engaged the vendor Qnect to utilize its connection engineering and optimization software service.

Qnect implemented its Early Connected Model, processing the project's 3D model to engineer steel connections. Their analysis identified 414 beams requiring costly reinforcing doublers. Through a collaborative and iterative digital workflow with LeMessurier, Qnect’s optimizations helped to eliminate all 414 doublers by resizing beams and reconfiguring connections. This pre-emptive solution saved an estimated $120,000 to $160,000 in fabrication costs, improved the design, and provided a fully coordinated model for earlier MEP coordination.
