Studying the epigenetics of childhood cancer

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, through MD/PhD candidate Nardin Samuel working at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, was studying the epigenetics of Li-Fraumeni Syndrome and other childhood cancers. The team needed a way to analyze complex genome-scale datasets, including DNA methylation, RNA, microRNA, and tissue-culture experiments, without requiring deep computational expertise. Qlucore’s Omics Explorer was used to support this research.

Qlucore’s Omics Explorer enabled the team to conduct and validate statistical analyses while generating clear visualizations such as heat maps for genome-wide differential methylation studies. According to the case study, Qlucore helped researchers handle a wide variety of dataset types and sizes more effectively, making the software especially valuable for users with limited computational biology experience. The result was faster, more accessible analysis of epigenetic data to better understand cancer susceptibility and potential therapeutic targets.
