Vale S.A. is a Brazil-based mining and logistics giant—one of the world’s largest producers of iron ore and nickel—with extensive mining, rail, port and shipping operations spanning long distances. Facing falling commodity prices and a fragmented landscape of manual, legacy processes and siloed systems, Vale lacked an integrated view of production, transport and sales, causing logistical inefficiencies, quality issues and missed sales opportunities.

To fix this, Vale built the Centro de Operações Integradas (COI) using Qlik Data Integration on Microsoft Azure to enable low‑latency, agentless ETL and near‑real‑time dashboards that aggregate MES, chartering and value‑chain systems. The COI cut data-prep for dashboards from four weeks to four hours, enabled self-service and cross-functional planning, improved asset monitoring, and delivered immediate business impact—$300M in benefits in the first month and $600M in annual savings.
