A Qlik Case Study
University of Maryland University College (UMUC) needed to combine 10 TB of data from four core systems—learning management, student information, financials and CRM—stored across on‑premises Oracle and SQL Server databases and cloud services. The challenge was to extract, normalize and load disparate, structured sources into a single data warehouse for analytics; their prior Oracle Streams–based approach couldn’t ingest non‑Oracle sources and required time‑consuming manual work.
UMUC selected Amazon Redshift and deployed Attunity from the AWS Marketplace to replicate Oracle and SQL Server data into an Amazon RDS Oracle ODS, apply ETL, and load consolidated data into Redshift. Attunity provided easy setup, centralized management on a single EC2 instance and near‑real‑time replication, enabling faster validation and BI access to trends such as enrollment, engagement and at‑risk students. The result: hours‑to‑replicate deployment, operational cost savings, and actionable insights to improve recruitment and student outcomes.
