U.K. Council Saves £150,000 a Year with QlikView for Budget Reports

Peterborough City Council, a UK unitary authority serving around 175,000 residents with an annual budget of about £217 million, faced steep central-government funding cuts and needed to tighten financial control. Its budgetary control relied on disparate systems (Oracle, Excel) and manual report manipulation, producing month-end-only reports with slow access, limited drill-down, and difficulty extracting procurement data—hindering timely forecasting and identification of efficiency savings.

The council deployed QlikView to consolidate multiple data sources, automate report generation and distribution, and enable in-month access and direct forecast entry. As a result, prior-month reports are available two working days earlier, budget information is accessible during the month, budget holders now work by exception, procurement KPIs are easier to monitor, and the council realizes about £150,000 in annual productive time savings.
