The National Map of Gender Violence Qlik tells the story behind the data in Brazil

The Federal Senate of Brazil, working with the Avon Institute, data journalism group Gênero e Número and analytics partner Cluster, set out to tackle alarming but fragmented and often hidden data on gender-based violence. Their challenge was to highlight critical information, present it in an easily understandable format, and create a single, trustworthy source of truth that could raise public awareness and influence policy.

Using Qlik Sense and embedded visualizations built with Cluster, the team created the National Map of Gender Violence—an interactive, secure platform that consolidates health, justice and survey data into compelling visuals. Launched in late 2023, the map attracted over 100,000 visits within eight months, generated media coverage, helped forge a data-sharing agreement with the Ministry of Justice, and is now driving more informed public policy and engagement by putting human stories at the center of the data.
