Case Study: Australian National University achieves real-time energy insights and carbon reduction with Qlik

A Qlik Case Study

Preview of the Australian National University Case Study

Sustainable campus operations with smart technologies and insightful analytics

Australian National University (ANU), a 25,000‑student, 5,000‑staff institution in Canberra, needed to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions across a campus of some 250 buildings. As one of the region’s largest electricity users, ANU faced poor meter accuracy, limited visibility into where energy was used, and a lack of engaging tools to drive campus-wide sustainability action.

ANU partnered with Cast Solutions to deploy a Qlik‑based Energy Dashboard that ingests data from ~1,000 smart meters, building characteristics and real‑time weather to deliver near‑real‑time visualisations and analytics. The dashboard surfaces hotspots and after‑hours waste, encourages “crowdsourced” problem‑solving by building managers, enables data‑led investment decisions, won an ESG app award, and is being extended to water and waste use while empowering the campus community to reduce emissions and costs.
