Shire, a patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that grew from roughly 4,000 to more than 23,000 employees as revenues expanded, faced a major challenge: data silos across dozens of platforms and pipelines made it hard to share information enterprise-wide and to make timely, patient-centered decisions that improve the patient journey.

Shire implemented a Connected Care model and built an Analytics Marketplace on Microsoft Azure using Datameer for data preparation and Qlik (View and Sense) plus R for visualization and advanced analytics, with governance and clean-data processes and broad training to drive adoption. The result: faster, self-service analytics (Qlik handled a 200M‑row trial dataset when a competitor stalled), over 400 TB of integrated data, more than 10,000 Qlik Sense users (~40% of the workforce) and 738 user-created apps—enabling secure, anonymized patient insights and better decision-making across commercial, manufacturing, finance, HR and patient services.
