QlikView Gives Ruffer Innovative Answers to Everyday Problems

Ruffer LLP, a UK investment manager with 85 staff and roughly £4.5bn in funds under management (as of July 2009), faced mounting MIS requests, heavy reliance on large, error-prone spreadsheets and disparate data sources that made reporting slow and potentially inaccurate. With a small IT team, the firm needed a faster, more reliable way to manage and analyse data and to move staff away from a “spreadsheet mentality.”

Ruffer implemented QlikView (via partner Wavex/QlikTech), trained an internal IT associate to build applications, and rolled out solutions across Operations, IT, Operational Risk and Research. The firm now runs 16 live projects (35 in development), including a flagship Funds Under Management historical analysis app; reports update instantly or by schedule, data exceptions are found and fixed quickly, man-hours for reporting and development have been saved, and IT’s profile and business users’ self-sufficiency have both improved.
