QlikView delivers next generation BI at energy company Essent

Essent N.V., part of RWE, supplies gas, electricity and energy services across the Benelux and employs about 4,500 people (€6.12bn turnover in 2010). The company needed to put BI on the CIO agenda and gain business buy‑in for a next‑generation, highly usable analytics platform to replace slow, costly, IT‑centric traditional BI systems.

Starting in 2009 Essent rolled out QlikView, beginning with procurement and expanding to B2C (24 apps), local energy services (3 apps) and multiple staff functions, creating a single point of truth and a BI competence center. The rollout delivered much faster development and response times, roughly one‑third the investment of legacy platforms (with expected 50–60% lower operational costs), broad user adoption and a shift from IT‑driven to business‑driven BI that improved cross‑unit collaboration and operational processes such as invoicing.
