Case Study: Green River Community College achieves hands-on student data analytics experience for ecological research with Qlik

Qlik Academic Program gives Green River students invaluable hands-on analytical experience

Green River College, a diverse community college in Auburn, WA with a 200‑acre forest campus, needed a way to stand out and give students practical data skills for ecological research. Biology professor Daniel Najera found traditional spreadsheets and analytics tools inadequate for the complex, large and circular data his classes produced, so students were spending too much time wrestling with software instead of analyzing ecosystems.

Joining the Qlik Academic Program gave Green River free access to Qlik Sense, training and learning resources, enabling hands‑on visualization and analysis in the classroom. Within a year more than 100 students and multiple faculty were using Qlik to drive deeper inquiry (e.g., a bird ecology dashboard with 128 species and 19,333 observations), reduce time on tooling, build a formal research program, and develop practical, resume‑ready analytics skills.
