Merck Sharp & Dohme Consolidates According To Business Rules Using QlikView

Merck Sharp & Dohme Netherlands (MSD), the Dutch subsidiary of global pharmaceutical firm Merck & Co., needed a way to analyze JD Edwards financial data and comply with a complex, company-wide set of consolidation rules. JD Edwards lacked the flexibility for detailed, rules-based reporting, so in 2005 MSD searched for a BI solution that could handle the required allocations and fast ad-hoc analysis.

MSD deployed QlikView to more than 40 users, integrating JD Edwards, Data3 (MRP) and Excel to deliver rule-driven consolidations, rapid drill-downs into balance sheet and P&L lines, and simplified budget management. The implementation required minimal training, supported secure handling of large data volumes via QlikView Server, and proved adaptable for future ERP migration to SAP.
